Pending Ultra

This week has been filled with trepidation. Every spare thought I have is about the ‘Race to the Stones’. This coming Saturday 13th July I will be attempting to run 100kms with both my husband and son. My last Ultra was 56kms, it wasn’t a breeze but I was well trained and I enjoyed it.

The humidity has been high and the temperatures uncomfortable so run quality has suffered and I am not as well trained. David (husband) has had some injuries and I feel his worry. We are not sharing the bad vibes too much.

Max our son is in England, without doubt the best trained of the three of us he will possibly have to drag us across southern England!

None of us have attempted anything like this; it should take about 14hours. I feel slightly nauseas.

On a happier note it’s my birthday month. I get so excited about my birthday. 55 yrs old on the 31st July. 👊🏻 I have expectations of presents but do not expect them to be met. It’s like window shopping; One day...!

It’s a good time to be alive. To have dreams and to make them happen. To connect with people all over the world. To celebrate ‘so far so good’ and get more excited about many tomorrows.

I am grateful and looking forward to the future, to making memories and to adventures unimagined!

In ten years of living in Dubai I have not mixed much with local people. They have a private culture and we live in an expat community. This week I met a very influential local lady. Some assumptions, myths and prejudices were banished while others were firmly confirmed. This lady’s mother was only 15 when she married a man over 50 years her senior.

Having herself married at 17 she was subsequently able to divorce and remarry and regain her place in society. This is modern Islam moving forward. Huge respect to her and thought leaders in the Region. She is strong and to the point, no words minced! We will be meeting again and I hope she will speak to you with me next time.

On another note I met with a young man who has the wisest head on his shoulders. 29 years old, so many lessons learned. Spreading love and positivity. If you can find a soul like that make him your friend. X
